Biography

Emma Capon (MA Cantab, MSc, MBA) is a second year PhD researcher at Royal Holloway, University of London.  She was awarded an ESRC Studentship to undertake the PhD.

Emma’s research interests are in family business and entrepreneurship.  Her PhD is a qualitative study exploring the role of external relations in shaping intergerenational succession in family businesses and extending theoretical understanding of relational embeddedness.

Prior to commencing her PhD, Emma worked in management-level roles in the Civil Service in London and Northern Ireland.  Her last Civil Service role was as Head of Policy and Strategy to the Head of the Northern Ireland Civil Service within the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister.  Emma has completed an Executive MBA at Queen’s University Belfast and an MSc in Innovation Management in the Public Service and was awarded a distinction in both. She holds a First class honours degree in History from St. Catharine’s College, University of Cambridge.

Emma continues to be involved in her own family’s business and has also been a PhD Tutor with ‘The Brilliant Club’, teaching a course based on her PhD research to school pupils in low-participation state schools.
