Congratulations to School of Management alumnae and co-founders of KALAB, Talitha Abraham and Florence Ettlin for being accepted on to UCL’s Hatchery programme.

KALAB is an entertainment start-up that bridges the gap between emerging musicians and hospitality enterprises. Through filters such as genre, budget and location, clients can easily discover and book local verified musicians for their events. 

UCL, as well as being a world leading university, is a start-up incubator and offers a variety of great support services and programmes to aspiring entrepreneurs, and the Hatchery programme is just one of those.

The Hatchery

The Hatchery is an exclusive programme available to start-ups with a viable business that has been founded by UCL students, researchers and recent alumni.

Florence and Talitha will receive support such as personal mentors via a large mentorship network, access to business advisors and seminars and expert workshops on various start-up topics including, negotiation, growth marketing, and communication strategies. 

“Through UCL’s network of affiliated companies, we even get 1:1 office hours with experts in the areas of legal & IP, development, marketing, sales & negotiation, investment, and plenty of discounts & perks!”

It is an exciting opportunity for the duo, and those who have been through the programme before them have gone on to make their business idea into a huge success. Raissa and Joyce De Haas, owners and founders of Double Dutch and former MSc Entrepreneurship students themselves, used UCL’s incubator services to turn their idea into a multi-million-pound global business while also making their way onto the Forbes 30 under 30 Europe list. Others have gone on to be accepted into famous tech accelerators such as Y Combinator. 

Florence and Talitha aren’t the only MSc Entrepreneurship students joining The Hatchery this year. They will be joined by Federico Mori - Rare Diagnostics,  Darren Cheok-Hin Chow & Balazs Zahorecz - Javia, and Ali Youssef & Jan Gasiewski - Skillwork.

What we learnt from studying MSc Entrepreneurship

Both Talitha and Florence studied UCL School of Management’s MSc Entrepreneurship programme and said it was “an excellent way for aspiring entrepreneurs to acquire the necessary skills and network to kickstart our ventures.”

The duo have gone from strength to strength during their time on the programme, winning ‘Best Pitch’ at the UCL SoM Pitch Day which saw them take home a cash prize to support them to further develop this exciting business venture. 

We are excited to see what great things Florence and Talitha have in store for KALAB and how they will continue innovating the music industry.
