Management, Ai and Healthcare: PhD and early career workshop

Date

Tuesday, 19 October 2021
Description

What is the purpose of the events series?

Healthcare is considered one of the key areas in which Artificial Intelligence (AI) will have a great impact. After decades of R&D and experimental applications, AI, such as machine and deep learning technologies, is now being implemented in a range of healthcare settings to address a range of issues related to health care, health services and health systems.

Against this backdrop, we see a need to bring together a range of actors interested in and pursuing work at the intersection of AI and Healthcare. Specifically, there is a need to bring together scholars across management disciplines (marketing, organisational behaviour, information systems, operations & technology, and strategy) and across research areas (management, health services, computer science), with policymakers.

The events planned in the series Management, AI and Healthcare at UCL’s School of management aim to create the conditions, explore the ideas and trigger bold discussions that may shape future research and policies.

PhD and early careers workshop

This workshop will bring together a community of scholars interested in AI in healthcare across all management disciplines. Specifically, the event is aimed at PhD students, post-doctoral and early career researchers, whether in management areas of strategy, organisational behaviour, information systems, operations and technology, or marketing. We welcome junior scholars regardless of their preferred theoretical perspectives and research methods/approaches.

The workshop will centre on a panel discussion in which the audience will contribute questions in advance (via online polling) and also in real-time during the event. Breakout rooms will allow participants to interact with panellists in smaller numbers and to engage in deeper conversations.

The event will be chaired by Dr Angela Aristidou, Assistant Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the UCL School of Management, and Dr Giulia Cappellaro, Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the School of Management and Assistant Professor at the Bocconi University’s Department of Social and Political Sciences.

We are pleased to be joined by three expert panellists:

Professor Gina Neff - Professor of Technology & Society at the University of Oxford and Executive Director of the Minderoo Centre for Technology & Democracy at the University of Cambridge

Dr Bart Vanneste - Associate Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the UCL School of Management

Dr Luciana D’Adderio - Chancellor’s Fellow in Data Driven Innovation at the University of Edinburgh and Turing Fellow at the Alan Turing Institute for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence

The workshop will be hosted online in a virtual format.

Please register for the event via Eventbrite.

Workshop participants will be screened to ensure representation across management areas, theoretical perspectives and methodological strengths to ensure the discussion is balanced across these areas.
