Decision support systems

Summary

The complexity of many strategic and operational decisions requires a systematic approach to decision making, which can sift through numerous (interacting) options, trading off multiple (quantitative and qualitative) objectives, incorporating conflicting stakeholder opinions, while minimizing risks and handling huge amounts of data. Such decisions can greatly benefit from state-of-the-art decision support tools. We develop such decision support systems, using decision analysis and optimization, for problems in the areas of project portfolio selection, project management, logistics, and marketing.

Relevance

Recent projects include a framework to support the European Commission’s Single European Sky initiative, a system to model and predict passengers flows at Heathrow airport, valuation models for supporting licensing negotiations of pharmaceutical R&D projects, a framework to help the UK Department for Transport and Network Rail to forecast costs of major future UK infrastructure projects, a system to optimize the transhipment operations of the Noble Group in Indonesia, and the development of a recommendation engine for two mobile advertising companies based in London and Silicon Valley.
